God Carries Me Forever

This morning I prayed and meditated upon Psalm 28, and it has stuck with me all day long. The second half of the psalm particularly spoke to my heart:

Blessed be the LORD!
For he has heard the voice of my pleas for mercy.
The LORD is my strength and my shield;
in him my heart trusts, and I am helped;
my heart exults, and with my song I give thanks to him.

The LORD is the strength of his people;
he is the saving refuge of his anointed.
Oh, save your people and bless your heritage!
Be their shepherd and carry them forever.
(Psalms 28:6–9)

It was when I got to the last line that all those lines before it suddenly came alive in my heart and mind. Our Shepherd God will carry us forever.

Imagine the Shepherd, seeking the lost sheep, finding him, gently lifting the helpless lamb into his arms, and carrying him to safety, to green pastures and quiet waters… forever.

No wonder those who know the Lord find him to be a saving refuge, a source of strength. No wonder our hearts should trust in him and exult in him. How can we help but sing thanksgiving to our God?

Blessed be the Lord!
