Songs of Suffering and Sanctification: The Hymnody of Anne Steele

My article on the life, theology, and hymns of Anne Steele was published in the July 2013 volume of Puritan Reformed Journal. You can download a PDF of the article by clicking here.

Steele, an eighteenth century British Baptist hymn writer, composed many hymns that at one time were among the most well-known in the Separatist and Dissenting churches of England. She lived a life of deep personal piety, which combined with her love for the Bible’s truth to produce moving and powerful hymns. Steele’s life and work remain for us an example of godliness.
